WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD Historic Germantown Neighborhood Association History of Germantown Neighborhood Established in the 1850s by European immigrants Historic Germantown was Nashvilles first suburb. The neighborhood was born as large brick town homes were erected next to modest workers cottages providing an early example of a mixeduse neighborhood with a diverse socioeconomic population. Neighborhood revitalization began in the 1970s as two historic churches began renovations. Historic Germantown was deemed a Registered Historic District in 1979 and was also designated a city arboretum by the Nashville Tree Foundation for themore than 100 species of trees that grow in the neighborhood.
