May 31st was the birthday of one of the most renowned women French composers of the last 200 years - Louise Farrenc. Born in Paris in 1804, Farrenc gained recognition both as a performer and a composer, producing a wide range of works including symphonies, chamber music, and piano pieces. Notably, she was the only woman to hold a permanent professorship at the Paris Conservatoire in the 19th century, where she taught piano for over 30 years. Her compositions are admired for their craftsmanship and depth, and have experienced a resurgence in interest in recent decades..
