Detroit Horse Power - Home

We partner with horses to create transformative opportunities, helping Detroit’s youth and communities grow, connect, and thrive. Detroit Horse Power uniquely addresses two persistent problems facing the Motor City: the shortage of opportunities for metro Detroit's vulnerable populations (especially children) and the abundance of vacant land. Through riding and caring for horses in a safe and enriching space, program participants learn valuable skills that set them up for future success. Our facility, built on repurposed vacant land, will contribute to the city's renewal and be a center for community events and equestrian services.

About the organization

- O52 -

We harness the power of horses to expand opportunities for Detroits youth. Detroit Horse Power is a 501c3 nonprofit founded in 2015 by former Detroit elementary school teacher David Silver. We teach Detroit students to ride and care for horses to develop critical skills that will set them up for academic career and life success. Our planned urban equestrian center will be built on repurposed vacant land in Detroit and serve as a community center that offers yearround youth programming.
