On May 27, 1896, the “Great Cyclone” tore through St. Louis and East St. Louis in one of the deadliest tornadoes in U.S. history. It claimed over 255 lives, injured more than 1,000, and left massive devastation in its wake. Part of the Relief Committee, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was there to offer food, shelter, and aid to those in need. Our daily work at became one of the earliest examples of organized disaster response. 💙 We're offering hope and help to victims of St. Louis' May 2025 tornado, too . . . and when it’s needed most. It’s insulation—torn from homes and wrapped around branches—left behind by the devastating tornado in St. Louis.💔 The destruction is real. The need is urgent.
