Maximizing HIV Patient Outcomes through Simple Healthcare IT A registered 501(c)3 non-profit startup dedicated to providing SMS text messaging systems that send supportive messages to HIV/AIDS and TB clinic patients. At present, over 6.1 million people in South Africa are living with HIV. HIV infection requires lifelong treatment to stay healthy and prevent new infections. However, social isolation, forgetfulness, and stigma all can cause patients to not stick with their treatment, which is called nonadherence. Sawubona Health uses low-cost, automated, and personalized text messages to help patients adhere to their treatment.Sawubona's guiding philosophy is one of local partnership. We provide the technical infrastructure for a clinic to better support its patients. Building on a growing body of evidence showing the effectiveness of text message support, we help each partner clinic craft their own messages. Then we send the cost-effective support messages on behalf of the partner clinic -- all for around $1 per patient per year.
