With foul weather preventing our team from collecting tidal samples by boat, this week we pivoted to collecting accessible tidal stations by land! Water clarity was very low due to stormwater runoff carrying sediment into the tidal Patapsco River, with some secchi depth readings as low as 0.2 meters. We regularly see secchi depths greater than 1 meter, occasionally up to 3 meters. A dip in water clarity is expected after rainfall, though it is exacerbated by urban hardscapes.
