What we see now as the McGee Family Conservation Area (heading south on C Highway) was once the home named "Prairie Park" of Judge James Harvey Birch. He was the first land agent in Plattsburg. It was a large farmstead with as pictured below. He raised a large family and after he passed his mansion was passed on to Fitzhugh Carter Frost who married his daughter, Sarah Birch Frost. Fitzhugh and Sarah's son Daniel Frost and his wife, Sallie H. Hoskins inherited the land and built a new mansion and raised their three daughters there. L.L. Marcell purchased Prairie Park after Daniel Frost's death He owned it for many years until the Newby family purchased it.
