From a few months ago out of Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute at Stanford University, an interesting research experiment involving mice that indicated that the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin work together but in opposition in reward-based learning and behavior. This knowledge may be useful in interventions for things like addiction, ADHD, and depression, which are generally thought to involve dopamine and/or serotonin. Interventions that modulate (change) both neurotransmitters may be more effective than only targeting one.
