The Lake Providence Snake Rodeo is no more! 🎉🐍 For decades, snakes were shot and slaughtered in this cruel contest in northeast Louisiana, with prizes awarded for killing the most and longest snakes. But thanks to you, this unethical event has finally come to an end! Since 2018, we’ve worked alongside Louisiana Amphibian and Reptile Enthusiasts to stop this cruelty. Thousands of you spoke out — writing letters, signing petitions, and testifying before the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission. 👉 And you made a difference. In late 2023, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries proposed stronger protections for reptiles and amphibians, including a ban on events like the Lake Providence Snake Rodeo. Despite opposition from those profiting from wildlife exploitation, these protections became law in early 2025! This victory is a testament to the power of collective action. A huge thank you to Louisiana Amphibian and Reptile Enthusiasts for leading this fight and to Louisiana State Herpetologist Keri Lejeune for her persistence in getting this ban across the finish line!
