Canyon Scholars

In 22 years, we have partnered w/ 130 people just like you to give educational scholarships! Help us! To provide educational scholarships to Latino youth in 40 Mexican Indian villages, equipping 100s of college graduate leaders to return, uplift and develop their communities.

Canyon Scholars

Canyon Scholars is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational scholarships to young people in Mexican Indian villages. The program aims to empower these individuals to become leaders and contribute positively to their communities, particularly in regions affected by drug-related violence.

History

The organization was founded following a life-changing experience of its founders, Ren and Grace Svanoe. In July 2000, they were stranded in the Canadian wilderness for eight days, an ordeal that led them to pledge their lives to helping those in poverty. This commitment marked the beginning of Canyon Scholars.

Mission and Vision

Canyon Scholars' mission is to support the educational development of young people in Mexico, enabling them to uplift and develop their communities. The vision is to see these individuals become renowned community leaders, thereby stabilizing drug-torn regions and promoting positive change.

Activities

The organization has been active for over 22 years, with scholarships provided to hundreds of students. This effort has been supported by over 130 American donors. Canyon Scholars also plans to expand its initiatives, including projects like establishing a boarding school, providing clean water filtration systems, and offering technical training internships.

Organizational Structure

Canyon Scholars operates with a lean structure, relying on volunteer efforts and stipends for directors. The organization aims to strengthen its operations through monthly funding and seeks to engage new sponsors and supporters to ensure its long-term viability.

Impact

Canyon Scholars has made significant strides in empowering young people to become agents of change in their communities. By providing educational opportunities, the organization contributes to reducing poverty and immigration issues by fostering local leadership and development.
