Paramount Hudson Valley Arts

Paramount Hudson Valley Arts (PHVA) is a U.S. nonprofit organization established in 2013 as a 501(c)(3) entity. Its mission is to provide high-quality performing arts and arts education programs to diverse and underserved communities in Peekskill and northern Westchester County.

Mission and Activities

The organization operates the historic Paramount Theater in downtown Peekskill, aiming to make this landmark venue a hub for live music and performing arts. PHVA focuses on theater, dance, music, storytelling, poetry readings, and other cultural activities. It also supports arts education initiatives and develops new works, particularly those celebrating the history and culture of Peekskill and the Hudson Valley.

PHVA collaborates with local and international artists, presenting a wide range of performances and cultural events throughout the year. These include events for Black History Month, Women's History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, family theater shows, and a Sunday Film Series. Additionally, PHVA supports emerging and established artists through programs like a playwright-in-residence, partnered with organizations like the Dramatists Guild.

Community Impact

PHVA is committed to making arts accessible to all. The organization provides free tickets to select groups, such as veterans and their families, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the offerings at the Paramount Theater. PHVA also hosts significant community events, including graduations and local group galas, further integrating the theater into local life.

History

Established in 2013, PHVA has grown steadily, building strong community partnerships and engaging new audiences. Despite challenges like the global pandemic, PHVA continued to serve the community through initiatives such as hosting blood drives. Today, PHVA manages all operations at the Paramount Theater, marking a decade of operation since its inception.

Recognition

The Paramount Theater, a central component of PHVA's mission, is recognized as a Westchester County Landmark and is listed on both the New York State and National Registers of Historic Places. The theater underwent significant restoration and was reopened with a focus on maintaining its historic importance while hosting contemporary performances.
