Meet Johnny Mac Scholar, Ryann Allen! Ryann is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Language with a German concentration at Tennessee Tech University. She hopes to become a freelance translator or work as a translator for government officials. Ryann is also a member of Tennessee Tech’s dance team, where she continues to build on her passion for dance. Ryann was six years old when her father, Army Staff Sergeant Charles “Chaz” Allen, stepped on a 40-pound improvised explosive device (IED) while on dismounted patrol in Afghanistan. He instantly lost both legs and sustained other serious injuries. The Allen family spent the next two years at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Ryann shares that her Johnny Mac Scholarship has helped ease the financial stress of attending college and has connected her to new opportunities and people.
