Compassionate Friends, Inc., commonly known as The Compassionate Friends (TCF), is a non-profit organization in the United States dedicated to assisting families after the death of a child. The organization provides support to parents, grandparents, and siblings through a network of chapters across all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico.

History

TCF was inspired by the work of The Compassionate Friends in the UK, which was founded in 1969. The US version of TCF began to develop after a story titled "Therapeutic Friendship" was published in Time Magazine in 1971, highlighting the support provided by such groups. By 2012, TCF had grown to approximately 600 chapters across the United States.

Programs and Support

Compassionate Friends offers a variety of programs aimed at supporting families through the grieving process. These initiatives include:

• Support Groups: Local chapters host regular meetings where bereaved family members can share their feelings and experiences in a supportive environment.
• Online Support: TCF utilizes online platforms, such as private Facebook groups, to provide additional support and connection opportunities for those who cannot attend in-person meetings or prefer online interactions.
• Pen Pal Program: This program connects children who have lost siblings, providing them with support and understanding from peers who have experienced similar losses.
• Resource Department: Offers a range of materials, including books, brochures, and fact sheets, to help families navigate grief.
