The Academy of Doctors of Audiology (ADA) submits comments in response to the U.S. Department of Justice Anticompetitive Regulations Task Force’s March 27, 2025 request for input on eliminating laws and regulations that restrict market competition. ADA, a national leader in evidence-based audiology practice and policy, supports the DOJ’s effort to remove statutory and regulatory barriers that limit access to care, inflate healthcare costs, and reduce consumer choice. ADA urges swift action to eliminate outdated and anticompetitive federal and state policies that obstruct innovation and competition in audiology. Specifically, ADA calls for: Reforming Medicare to eliminate restrictive classification of audiologists and audiology services, remove burdensome pre-treatment order requirements, and ensure beneficiary access to both diagnostic and treatment services from audiologists. Modernizing state laws to remove unnecessary barriers to telehealth and mobile service delivery in audiology, expanding care to underserved and rural populations. Ending occupational licensing practices that tie state licensure to mandatory association certification, which unfairly increases provider costs, limits mobility, and restricts professional autonomy. ADA remains committed to working with the DOJ and policymakers to foster accessible, affordable, and high-quality hearing and balance care through fair competition and patient-centered reforms.
