Northeast Nebraska Community Action Partnership
Northeast Nebraska Community Action Partnership (NENCAP) is a private non-profit corporation incorporated under the laws of the State of Nebraska. It was originally chartered in 1966 as the Thurston County Community Action Council under the provisions of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964. The organization celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2016[1].
History
Initially based in Macy, Nebraska, serving Thurston County, NENCAP's first programs included Head Start, Commodities Supplemental Food Assistance, and Weatherization. In 1967, the office relocated to Walthill, Nebraska. As the service area expanded, the central offices were later moved to Wisner, Nebraska. In March 2012, following significant growth, the organization relocated to Pender, Nebraska, and changed its name from Goldenrod Hills Community Action, Inc. to Northeast Nebraska Community Action Partnership, Inc.[1]. This name change was part of a national initiative to enhance awareness of Community Action Agencies' efforts in combating poverty.
Service Area and Programs
NENCAP serves a 14-county area in Northeast Nebraska, which includes the counties of Antelope, Burt, Cedar, Cuming, Dakota, Dixon, Dodge, Knox, Madison, Pierce, Stanton, Thurston, Washington, and Wayne[1][2]. The organization focuses on empowering individuals, strengthening families, and enriching communities through various support programs. These programs typically include services related to housing, education, health, food assistance, utility support, and financial guidance.
Mission and Impact
NENCAP's mission is aligned with the broader objectives of Community Action Agencies across the U.S., which aim to provide opportunities for low-income individuals and families to improve their circumstances and achieve economic stability. Through its comprehensive services, NENCAP plays a critical role in addressing poverty and enhancing the quality of life for its constituents in Northeast Nebraska.
