🧡 New pup alert: Xavier is a male northern elephant seal pup that was rescued from Dockweiler Beach on March 27. At his intake exam, our veterinary experts determined that Xavier was underweight and malnourished. Although Xavier was already more than a month old when he was rescued, he weighed the same as a newborn pup! Northern elephant seals wean after about a month of nursing with their mothers, which means Xavier may have been struggling to find food on his own. During his first few days at our hospital, Xavier was fed a “fish smoothie” made from mashed up fish and fish oil. Our animal care team is now working on transitioning him to eating whole fish on his own. Your support saves pups like Xavier! Thank you for being an ocean hero! (fb)
