After the casseroles cooled and the cards stopped coming, I was left with silence. That’s when I realized what I needed more than anything was someone who understood; not just my loss, but the depth of who I was becoming because of it. I didn’t need “Let me know if you need anything.” I needed, “I’ve been there. Let’s sit together in this.” Finding a widow tribe saved me. Women who had walked this road before me. Women who held space without judgment. Women who didn’t flinch when I talked about year two being harder than year one. If you’re walking through widowhood, know this: You deserve community that doesn’t treat you like you’re fragile or forgotten. You deserve to be seen as more than someone’s wife! You're still here, and you matter. You deserve support that’s not just emotional, but practical and powerful. Find a widow tribe that will welcome you just as you are—your age, your faith background, your life journey, and your unique identity. It’s an inclusive space, not one that asks you to shrink or fit into a box(es) to be worthy of support or “like us” whatever that is. Widows need connection. We need each other.
