#Repost @californiatrout - Can dam removal boost a local economy? On the Eel River, the answer is yes. A new report from the Bay Area Council Economic Institute finds that removing Scott and Cape Horn dams would create 1000+ jobs and boost the regional economy by over $200 million. Tap the 🔗 in our bio for more. Scott and Cape Horn dams are two 100+ year old dams on the Eel River that are part of the hydroelectric Potter Valley Project. The Project’s owner, PG&E, has allowed its license for the operation to expire and is currently working with federal regulators to develop a decommissioning plan. CalTrout will continue to advocate for dam removal on the Eel. Dam removal would: 🐟 reconnect salmon and steelhead with almost 300 miles of spawning habitat 💧 improve water quality, which is currently listed as impaired under the Clean Water Act 🎣 restore & protect important Tribal cultural practices 👷 create 1,037 to 1,332 local jobs 💰 boost the regional economy by $203 million to $278 million. Removing the Potter Valley Project’s dams would make the Eel River California’s longest free flowing river! Tell us something you 💙 about the Eel in the comments⬇️ Study funding provided by the @resourceslegacyfund. 📸: Scott dam by Kyle Schwartz. 📸: Cape Horn dam by @mikowier (fb)
