Over two years ago, our Outreach Coordinator Khatool Masoudi recognized that isolation was as big an obstacle to newcomers as learning a language, finding employment, or affording a home. That’s why she started STEPS, a women’s support group forum that meets monthly to offer friendship and programming that lets women know they’re not alone. Since 2015, International Neighbors has helped thousands of newcomers begin to build their lives in Charlottesville. This week, we celebrated with high school graduates whose refugee and SIV families arrived when they were very young. Now, many of them have become U.S. citizens along with their parents and siblings! We continue to witness full circle moments like these as a small, grassroots organization operating for a decade right here in Cville.
