💙💛 Weekly Bible Verse 💛💙 let's dive a little bit deeper into Hebrews for a better understanding of this verse. 😉 Chapter 9 of Hebrews begins with the ''old rules' of worship - the setup of the Tabernacle, the sacrificial use of of animal blood to cleanse for sins, and the role of the high priest. The author of Hebrews explains that the old setup - with only the high priest allowed in the Most Holy Place to offer up the sacrifices - didn't really do much to 'cleanse the consciences of the people who bring the gifts and sacrifices' (Hebrews 9:9). Further, the author points out that these ceremonies were merely 'physical regulations' (Hebrews 9:10). But then beginning with verse 11, the author begins to explain the new covenant with Jesus as the perfect sacrifice. That now, with Jesus's death on the cross and our belief in Him as our savior, it is about a transformation of a believer's heart. For when our heart is transformed through our faith in Christ, we live a life of grace, humility, and love towards others. Hebrews is our call live a life of spiritual practice that is about being more like Jesus. Verse 28 is not a long list of all the things a person must do to receive salvation through the second coming of Christ; but instead it's a simple reminder that salvation will come to those who are waiting for Him - to those whose hearts have been transformed by Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. 💛💙 (fb)
