Home Our Mission We are dedicated to the collection documentation restoration interpretation and protection of the history of Berkeley County West Virginia and to making it available for education research and community purposes. The Society operates as an allvolunteer nonprofit and receives no public funds. Our Goals Develop the Belle Boyd House as an education centerCreate a depository for historical papers and materialsRestore and protect the artifacts documents and manuscriptsWrite research publish and continue to develop architectural and genealogical materials for public accessCatalog and document all artifacts and items donated or loaned to the Berkeley County Historical Society. Berkeley County Historical Society Inc
Around the late 1720s, Morgan Bryan built a plantation close to what is now Bedington on his 810 acres that stretched across both sides of Opequon Creek, including land near the point where the Opequon flows into the Potomac River – a key early transportation hub. By 1733, Bryan had built a grist mill and relocated several families in the region. At that time, the entire area, including all of Berkeley County, was part of Orange County, Virginia.
