Unlocking Silent Histories

We are a non-profit dedicated to amplifying the voices and identities of indigenous youth through the creation of their own documentaries. Through an engaged critical and creative process, USH inspires Indigenous youth to create documentary films that capture and illuminate their cultures, languages, and customs. The voices of the youth lead the process, deciding which traditions and heritages to preserve and which methods are best to apply. Our goal is to collaboratively foster a learning and leadership model for younger generations as well as create business ideas that support their communities.

OUR WORK Indigenous youth are among 476 million Indigenous people across 90 countries who are underrepresented in the digital landscape. We are on a mission to change that. Unlocking Silent Histories accelerates digital equity by equipping youth with the skills and equipment needed to produce films from their perspective. Through the video ethnography process young participants draw on community assets to tell their stories creating films that unveil historical and contemporary wisdom.
