Description

Nebraska Christian College

Nebraska Christian College was a private, non-profit Christian institution located in Papillion, Nebraska. It aimed to provide a Bible-focused education to train students for service and ministry within the Christian community.

History

The college was established in 1944, originating from discussions in Wymore, Nebraska. Initially, Norfolk, Nebraska was considered for its location to leverage existing educational facilities. However, it eventually moved to Papillion near Omaha in 2006. Nebraska Christian College was affiliated with the Christian churches and churches of Christ, reflecting its commitment to Christian teachings.

In 2016, the college merged with Hope International University, offering students a broader range of courses and degree options. Unfortunately, the institution faced significant financial difficulties and a declining student body, leading to its closure in May 2020. Remaining students were transferred to Hope International University or allowed to continue their studies online.

Mission and Programs

Nebraska Christian College was dedicated to fostering spiritual growth and leadership skills among its students. It offered various degree programs, including the Bachelor of Theology, Bachelor of Arts, and Associate of Arts degrees. Academic areas included biblical interpretation, children's ministry, preaching ministry, and worship arts ministry, emphasizing a strong biblical foundation.

Student Life and Athletics

The college had a small student body with a student-faculty ratio of 13:1, promoting personalized learning and community interaction. It was a part of the Association of Christian College Athletics and the Midwest Christian College Conference, fielding teams in men's basketball and women's volleyball. The athletic program focused on developing character and leadership skills among student athletes.

Accreditation

Nebraska Christian College was accredited by the Association for Biblical Higher Education, ensuring its academic programs met rigorous standards in biblical education.

Financial Overview

The institution implemented a "One Price Plan" to maintain consistent tuition rates for students staying for four years, aiming to make education more affordable. It also provided financial aid through scholarships, loans, and federal programs. The annual cost for on-campus students was around $17,800, inclusive of fees and living expenses.

Legacy

Despite its closure, Nebraska Christian College's legacy remains in the spiritual and educational foundation it provided to its students during its operation.
