Join HK’s Movement of Ideas this week. There’s lots to learn and discuss this week in Hope, Leavenworth, Stafford, and Tonganoxie. Want to see your community on the map? If your organization is a Kansas nonprofit, you can bring FREE Speakers Bureau presentations to your community. Federal funding cuts have put future opportunities in jeopardy, but you can take action to save humanities funding in Kansas: https://tinyurl.com/HKTakeAction 💡 May 26 at the Tonganoxie Community Historical Society – The museum hosts an opening of the “Kansas Stories of the Vietnam War: Tonganoxie” exhibition. Open from 7:30am-10:30am on Memorial Day and then on exhibition through August 2025. 💡May 27 at the Tonganoxie Community Historical Society – Veteran oral history handover ceremony and Murl Riedel talks about “A New Generation of Veterans: Stories from Iraq and Afghanistan.” 💡May 27 at the Leavenworth Public Library – Trish Reeves leads a TALK book discussion of “The Graveyard Book” by Neil Gaiman. 💡June 1 at the Stafford County Museum in Stafford – Eric Anderson presents “A History of the American Indian Boarding School." 💡June 1 at the Hope Community Museum – Rex Buchanan discusses “The Petroglyphs of the Kansas Smoky Hills.” 💡Bring a FREE HK Speakers Bureau presentation to your community. Thank you, KCUR 89.3 for the story about the Kansas Stories of the Vietnam War oral history project and the impact of federal funding cuts in Kansas. Even though the cuts canceled the handover ceremony, our partner communities were still able to collect and preserve stories and come together for important community conversations. This is the power of the humanities in action. Check out HK's Calendar of Events for upcoming community events: https://www.humanitieskansas.org/events https://www.kcur.org/arts-life/2025-05-23/a-kansas-city-historian-collected-vietnam-war-stories-trumps-cuts-almost-canceled-the-project (fb)
