Meet Serena D. — a determined wildlife conservationist and member of Jane Goodall's Roots & Shoots Youth Council USA from Massachusetts! 🌱🤩 ☀️🥫 Serena’s current project has been researching and implementing a green roofing pilot program at her university with a few other students! This would use vegetation on part of the school’s roof to provide natural shade and insulation. In addition to this, she has organized successful food drives two years in a row for #GoodAllDay , raising hundreds of dollars for families in need! 📸🥾 Outside of #RootsAndShoots , Serena was recently elected as the Vice President of her university’s Environmental Education Club! She also conducts conservation research and volunteers at a local nature center. For fun, Serena enjoys hiking, playing guitar, and is a talented wildlife photographer — check out this bee photo she took! (P.S. Our #RootsAndShoots adventures with Toyota USA continue! For two years now, we've been teaming up with Toyota USA to inspire communities around their facilities with powerful youth action events! This time, the Roots & Shoots team touched down in San Antonio, Texas 🤠⭐️ There, six local organizations came together to lead activities with 80 students from Hidden Cove STEAM Academy: 🦋 San Antonio Zoo led students in a hands-on demonstration about pollinators 🦇 Bat Conservation International taught about the importance of bats as pollinators and predators for crop-destroying insects 🐟 Audubon Texas introduced students to the many birds of Mitchell Lake Audubon Center 🔑 Texas Parks and Wildlife organized an exciting garden "treasure hunt" to look for local pollinators in action 🐝 Bee-keepers Mr. Adrian Herrera and Johnny shared key insights from their profession 🌳 Project Learning Tree walked students through 3 hands-on stations activities to round out their pollinator knowledge 🪴And our own Roots & Shoots team shared the Jane Goodall Institute's work, handed out wildflower seeds native to Texas and helped students paint flowerpots to plant them in!
