THE NATIONAL SOCIETY OF COLONIAL DAMES OF AMERICA IN MARYLAND WAS ESTABLISHED TO PRESERVE COLONIAL HERITAGE. THE NSCDA-MD HAS OPERATED THE HISTORIC MOUNT CLARE MUSEUM HOUSE IN BALTIMORE SINCE 1917 THAT HOUSES A SIGNIFICANT COLLECTION OF 18TH AND 19TH CENTURY ARTIFACTS. THEY HAVE ALSO ESTABLISHED AN ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP ESSAY CONTEST FOR HIGH SCHOOLERS ENABLING THE WINNERS TO TRAVEL TO WASHINGTON DC FOR A WEEK OF CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION ABOUT THE NATIONAL GOVERNMENT.
