Please read and share this post! It has been one year since Dhalia (Dolly) became our foster dog. She has lived in a kennel in our basement with limited human contact for over 365 days now. We know this is not the most ideal situation for her, but it’s better than it was, and it’s better than it could be, and it’s all that we have available. When Dolly first came to us She was terrified of everything. She was completely shut down and she trusted no one. She was in an over crowded shelter in Kentucky where her previous owner dumped her just 1 week after she had puppies. She was traumatized. After 8 weeks, She watched as each one of her puppies were adopted one by one and she whined and cried for them once they were all gone. Since then, with the help of Nick's Dog Training, she has learned to not only trust people, but to LOVE them! She has totally come out of her shell and she is such a fun, happy go lucky girl that just wants to be around people all the time. But we are no closer to finding her a home than we were this time last year. What we know: Dolly is good with kids (we suggest older kids because she is easily excitable and gives “love nibbles”) She prefers women but does warm up to men. They just take a little longer. Although it takes her some time to warm up, Once she knows and loves you, she will literally burst at the seams when she gets to spend time with you. It’s like a love explosion! 💥 💕 Dolly doesn’t like cats but she does well with other dogs of similar size and energy level She is crate trained and house broken She LOVES chasing a ball around the yard and she LOVES tearing apart stuffed toys! She’s a super chewer +++ BUT she does not chew furniture! She’s extremely smart and eager to please. She is responding very well to training. She likes breakfast in bed. Seriously. She picks up her dog dish and carries it over to her bed to eat. She does not have an ounce of food aggression - she will let you share her dinner if you ask nicely. She stays in the yard off leash and responds well to commands. She does know how to climb/jump fences though - so if she’s going to be left unattended in the yard, then an 8 foot privacy fence is required. She is super strong and energetic but thanks to her training She does not pull on the leash. She would make an excellent running partner, hiking buddy and best friend. She loves to snuggle on the couch after a long hard day! Dolly REALLY needs a home of her own where she can flourish and become the best version of herself. She needs more human contact than what we can give. And she needs someone that will continue to work on her training. This dog has so much potential that it literally hurts my heart knowing that she doesn’t have a family of her own.
