Over one million people have been displaced in Haiti due to gang violence. 60,000 have been displaced this last month alone. I can’t even begin to conceptualize 1,000,000 people. However, the town I grew up in has roughly 40,000 people in it. That means I only need to imagine my whole town being empty in the next thirty days to grasp the significance. Haitians have a saying - tout moun se moun. Everyone is someone. Meaning we all have value. People fear for me to go back into Haiti yet many of those same people are ok with sending Haitian people who legally came to the US over the past two years - back. My heart hurts over this. And so I am on my knees in prayer asking the father how I am to respond. And what is my part in this all? If one day someone is legal and the next day they are not… what am I called as a Christian to do? What if tomorrow I as a Christian became the illegal one? Again I pray, Lord lead me.
