Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding (Copy) The Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding Community empowers people and transforms lives through therapeutic connections with horses. History Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding CATR is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing quality Equine Assisted Services to the community. Meta Carter and Eileen McGuffie both accomplished equestrians founded CATR in 1991. That year CATR also gained the title of Premier Accredited Center through the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International PATH Intl.

Many people arrive at CATR feeling hopeless after trying a myriad of therapies and activities without success. The joy experienced when gaining the attention of a horse grazing in the pasture, touching a muzzle for the first time, or moving astride a 1000-pound animal is completely unmatched. This unfiltered joy creates the crack that lets the light in.
