What’s at Woodend this Wednesday? Trillium! Trillium is a genus of flowering plants🌸🌷🌼 that are native to Asia and North America. Trillium grandiflorum, native to Maryland🦀, is pictured here (also known as White wake robin🪺). This is a rhizomatous plant which means its main stem🌱, a rhizome, runs horizontally under the soil🪴 that send out shoots🌿 and roots🫚 with nodes. These rhizomes help trilliums survive the cold and store nutrients☃️🥗. Trillium grandiflorum is an herbaceous perennial that grows in shady woodlands🌳🦌. They have three leaf-like bracts (not a true leaf, found between the flower and leaves🍁) with a single white flower🪷. These flowers become seeds which are spread by ants🐜! Keep an eye out for Trilliums on your next hike🥾🏕️! (fb)
