After spending more than 80 days in our Transitional Care Unit, Paul is finally going home. Paul first came to GRH after suffering from a stroke that left him unable to speak. In the early days of his recovery through our Acute-Stroke Rehab Program, the only word he could say was “no.” With determination and the support of our dedicated speech-language pathologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, nurses, and providers, Paul made a remarkable breakthrough and spoke his first word: “yes.” Although it was a long and emotional road, our team was there through every small step that brought Paul closer to healing. On Friday, staff (some of whom came in on their day off) celebrated with a well-earned bubble party and “yes” cookies! Though our staff will miss him dearly, they will forever be inspired by Paul’s strength, perseverance, and spirit.
