State leaders are currently drafting Oregon's budget for the next two years and just announced the state has even less money to spend than previously thought, leading to tough budget choices. But one thing should be non-negotiable: Students can’t lose the progress we’ve made. If lawmakers fail to make meaningful investments in the Public University Support Fund and the Oregon Opportunity Grant, it will mean fewer supports for students, steeper tuition hikes and more barriers to graduation. We need the Legislature to protect these investments and ensure at least $1.114 billion for public universities and the students they serve. On April 3, Oregon State University advocates – including students, alumni and community supporters – met with dozens of legislators and their staff to talk about the vital role OSU plays for the state of Oregon and the need for expanded investment to support students, improve facilities on the Corvallis campus and continue growing OSU-Cascades so it can serve the needs of Central Oregon. Legislative advocacy is one of the most impactful ways to build support for OSU and higher education.
