Our mission is to raise awareness for underfunded research or treatments for pediatric cancers with an emphasis on Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma(DIPG) as well as assist local families within our surrounding communities that has a child that has been diagnosed with DIPG.

Tough Like Jack Foundation

The Tough Like Jack Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in the United States, established in honor of Jack Houston Culverhouse, who courageously battled Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer. The foundation aims to raise awareness about DIPG and contribute to efforts leading to a cure for this condition.

History

Jack Culverhouse, aged seven from Princeton, Texas, passed away on June 1, 2015, after his fight against DIPG. In recognition of Jack's courage, the Princeton City Council declared May 26 as "Tough Like Jack Day," an annual event to honor his memory and spread awareness about pediatric brain cancers[3].

Mission and Objectives

The primary mission of the Tough Like Jack Foundation is to increase awareness and support research into DIPG, a severely underfunded area of pediatric cancer research. The organization also seeks to provide assistance and hope to families whose children are affected by brain cancer or brain tumors. This mission includes supporting families through their journey with such diagnoses[2][3].

Events and Fundraising

The foundation organizes various events throughout the year to raise funds and promote awareness. Notably, it hosts annual BBQ competitions, which have been a recurring feature since 2016. Other events have included obstacle mud runs. These activities serve both as fundraising opportunities and as platforms for community engagement in support of the foundation's mission[2].

Financial Overview

As a private independent foundation, the Tough Like Jack Foundation relies on contributions and other income to support its charitable activities. Financial reports indicate that the organization has maintained a focus on charitable disbursements, with significant portions of its expenses dedicated to supporting its mission objectives[1].

Classification and Exempt Status

The Tough Like Jack Foundation is categorized under philanthropy, voluntarism, and grant-making foundations. It is recognized as an exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, making donations to the foundation tax deductible[1].
