Disabled American Veterans of Minnesota Foundation

The Disabled American Veterans of Minnesota Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the welfare of disabled veterans and their families across Minnesota. Established in 1992 as the "Giving Arm" of the Disabled American Veterans of Minnesota, the Foundation's primary mission is to provide financial resources for high-quality programs, services, and projects that benefit veterans.

History and Impact

Initially formed as a 501(c)19 organization, the Foundation was redesignated as a 501(c)(3) in 2019, allowing for tax-deductible contributions under Title 26 U.S.C., Section 501(c)(3). Since its inception, the Foundation has contributed over $4.2 million to various veteran support programs and projects throughout Minnesota. In 2022, it provided over $386,000 in grants, with nearly half going to partnerships with other Minnesota veteran organizations.

The Foundation supports a range of initiatives, including:

  • Transportation: Providing free transportation services for Minnesota veterans to and from VA Medical appointments.
  • Community Grants: Funding community projects that benefit veterans and their families.

The Disabled American Veterans of Minnesota Foundation is committed to transparency and accountability, having completed the Charities Review Council Accreditation process. This distinction makes it the only Veteran Service Organization in Minnesota to meet such high standards of accountability.

Since its establishment, the Foundation has awarded 489 grants totaling over $3.37 million, demonstrating its commitment to supporting veterans through diverse projects and programs.
