The En Classe foundation improves schools and helps to build brighter futures for Congolese children.In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, most school buildings are dilapidated and often the children sit on the floor. The level of education is of very poor quality. Even if children do go to school, they don’t learn much. Since its establishment in 2007, En Classe has renovated ten large school complexes and in addition provided them with basic infrastructure such as drinking water, school desks, bathrooms and educational materials. No less then 24 schools make use and thus benefit from these facilities and together they represent a broad cross-section of schools in Kinshasa: from religious to non-religious, from large to small, from poor to poorer… A unique test ground to test different school programs. Because En Classe not only renovate schools, but also develops innovative programs to improve the quality of education. For example a digital reading program and a hygiene program are currently being tested. When successful, these programs can and will be rolled out at various schools throughout Kinshasa and eventually in the rest of the DRC. This is done in partnership with other organizations as well as the Congolese Ministry of Education. En Classe has deep local knowledge and experience and strives to work with Congolese people as much as possible to also support the local economy. The En Classe Foundation is uniquely positioned: small enough to be innovative and pragmatic and at the same time sizable enough to be considered a serious partner by other organizations. This way, we really make a difference.
