Shakopee Dollars for Scholars
The objective of this Chapter shall be to raise money from the residents of the Independent School District #720 (Shakopee) for the purpose of awarding scholarships to assist students residing in the Chapter Area or graduating from Shakopee High School to obtain education beyond secondary or high school level. Such scholarships shall be awarded on the basis of the needs and relative merits of the applicants without regard to their race, color, creed or sex and in accordance with the by-laws, rules and procedures of our national organization, Scholarship America.

Shakopee Dollars for Scholars is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational support through scholarships to high school students residing in or graduating from the Shakopee area.
History and Background
Established in 1979, Shakopee Dollars for Scholars has grown significantly since its inception. Initially, it awarded $2,800 to 13 students, but today it supports approximately 100 students annually with over $120,000 in scholarships. Cumulatively, the organization has awarded more than $1.5 million to over 3,000 students.
Mission and Objectives
The mission of Shakopee Dollars for Scholars is to raise funds from the community to award scholarships to students pursuing education beyond high school. Scholarships are awarded based on need and merit, without regard to race, color, creed, or sex, in accordance with the by-laws and procedures of Scholarship America, a national organization of which Shakopee Dollars for Scholars is a local chapter.
Scholarships and Programs
Shakopee Dollars for Scholars offers both one-time and renewable scholarships. Renewable scholarships are available for up to three years for students maintaining full-time status and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher at an accredited U.S. institution. Individuals donating $700 or more are entitled to establish their own personal scholarship, with the opportunity to present the award to the recipient at the organization's awards ceremony.
Community Engagement and Donations
Donations are essential for sustaining and expanding the organization's scholarship program. Contributions are 100% tax-deductible and demonstrate community support for local students. They also encourage young people to continue their education, reflecting the American practice of "paying it forward."
