The Prater’s Mill Foundation was born out of a passion to protect and preserve Prater’s Mill. Thus the Foundation Board of Directors is currently hard at work advocating with Whitfield County to preserve the Prater’s Mill Historic Site. While the Foundation supports the concept of Whitfield County’s plans to develop the site for public use, we stand firm on our goal of preserving the historic structures on site including the Prater’s mill and dam, Prater family general store, Westbrook barn, granary, Shugart cotton gin and Lacewell doctor’s office. Whitfield County formalized its intention to preserve the historic site by establishing a local ordinance in 2020. It is the Foundation’s wish for Whitfield County to uphold its obligation to preserve the historic structures on site for future generations.
