So you say you are a good candidate because you give attention to detail. Make sure to show it on your resume. (fb)

News this morning that one of the giants of Open Door America, Pat Mueller, has passed on. It is hard to fully capture just how important Pat was to the growth and development of ODA. More importantly, it is impossible to know just how many lives she helped as a volunteer during our East Baltimore years. She was fearless in the pursuit of compassion and generosity, never once giving in to concerns about her own personal safety while working with us on very tough streets. Pat had a brilliant mind and a first-rate sense of humor. She was the consummate social worker and teacher. For ODA, she was the shining example of true faith put into truly meaningful action. She will be missed. Pat, please give Fred a hug from all of us. (fb)

From Our Blog The Reverse Engineers of Poverty BALTIMORE 15 YEARS AGOWeaving our way through the chaotic streets of East Baltimore scrupulously plotting which corners to avoid at all costs after dark we were unintentional coconspirators in the life and death struggles of people we would never meet. Every choice we made dripped with sad unintended consequences. Buoyed by simple aspirations of an awakened America we were intent on creating a renaissance vanguard one block at a time. Home to 300 murders a year and an unflinching poverty rate of 30 percent we elected to see Baltimore as a city of endless possibilities.
