Days End Farm Horse Rescue (DEFHR) is a nationally renowned, benchmark 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to rehabilitating neglected horses and educating the community on equine welfare and advocacy. The mission of Days End Farm Horse Rescue (DEFHR) is to ensure quality care and treatment of horses through intervention, education and outreach. We rehabilitate horses that come from animal control impoundments, train law enforcement professionals how to handle cases of large animal abuse and neglect, and maintain our farm as an educational community center for our volunteers and visitors. The combination of assisting law enforcement authorities and providing educational programming to the public sets us apart. The Baltimore Sun has called DEFHR a “national model” for horse rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming. We are a private, independent nonprofit based in central Maryland. We do not receive any government funding.

🐴 Meet Horses Seeking New Homes Through Our Owner 2 Owner Program (O2O) Our O2O Program — formerly known as the Maryland Equine Transition Service (METS) — helps connect horse owners directly with potential new homes for their horses, without the horses ever entering DEFHR’s facility or adoption program. This direct home-to-home transition minimizes stress for the horse, reduces risk, and eases the burden on overcrowded rescue organizations. It also encourages open, supportive communication between current and future owners.

She earned her name after being found abandoned in a state park, but her journey has led her to safety, care, and now—hopefully—to a loving retirement home. Eema is part of our Guardian Program, which means all expenses related to her care are tax-deductible.
