Now, they're wobbling milk-drunk all over their foster's bedroom! Last night, we got a desperate message that this mother cat was not taking care of her 2 week old babies and that she was putting them in a hole at a barn. One kitten had already died, and the others would likely follow without intervention. We were given 1 hour to get the mom and babies. Our team jumped into action without knowing where these kittens would go. As you know, we are closed for intake - but with the storms last night, this was a true emergency. The outdoors are incredibly dangerous for small kittens like these ones. Our volunteers graciously offered space in their homes to bring this family inside. Mama cat is sweet and loving. She has been feeding and taking care of her kittens since she arrived in our volunteer's home. It's obvious to us that Mama cat was trying to protect her babies by putting them in a hole - not trying to hurt them. It's not just about cleaning cages and socializing with our foster cats. It's not always playing with toys and snuggling. Sometimes, it's rushing to save lives on a stormy Friday night. Our volunteers are also fosters in urgent situations such as this one.
