Before we reveal the winners of our 2025–26 Big Idea Hunt, let’s take a moment to celebrate the incredible impact of our 24-25 Big Idea grant winners and the projects that were funded this year! 💡 Thanks to your generous support, the Foundation’s Big Idea Hunt grants empower Iowa City Community School District teachers and staff to bring bold, creative learning experiences to life. These grants fuel innovation across all grade levels and subject areas, turning visionary ideas into real opportunities for students. In 24-25 the Foundation funded 29 Big Idea grants; featured here are just a few. At City High, students in a new graphic design class used cutting-edge tools like graphic design computers and mirrorless cameras to create artwork for their school while gaining valuable skills for future careers in design, photography, and marketing. In addition, City High Neighbors funding supported student-led initiatives and clubs —giving students the chance to turn their ideas into action and lead projects that build school culture, community, and connection. At Northwest Middle School, students found connection and empowerment through the Latino Student Union, which celebrated culture with Hispanic Heritage Month events, cooking classes, and community service projects. The school also launched the Braid Studio, where students learn practical skills in hairstyling and braiding—building confidence, creativity, and community. At Mann Elementary, the Glow Show transformed student artwork into a vibrant community event. New art display panels, now available district-wide, made it easier than ever for schools to celebrate student creativity. At Grant Elementary, students piloted LCD writing tablets to practice handwriting in an engaging, modern way—blending foundational skills with technology. These are only a handful of the 29 Big Ideas made possible in 2024–25—and we can’t wait to show you what’s coming next!
