🌿🌳 #WonderfulWednesday Southern Maryland is home to some of the most beautiful and diverse landscapes in the state, and it's up to all of us to protect it! 🦋 Land conservation plays a vital role in preserving our lush forests, sparkling waterways, and unique wildlife for future generations. From the stunning Patuxent River to the tranquil Calvert Cliffs, these natural wonders need our support to thrive. By working together to protect open spaces, we help ensure cleaner air, healthier ecosystems, and more opportunities for outdoor recreation. Let’s continue the fight to keep Southern Maryland green, vibrant, and full of life! 🌱 How can YOU get involved? Support local conservation organizations Volunteer for clean-up events Advocate for land protection policies Together, we can make a difference! 💚 #LandConservation #SouthernMaryland #ProtectOurLand #SustainableFuture Photo 📸 from the American Chestnut Land Trust - ACLT (fb)

🦅 #FunFactFriday: Did you know that the Chesapeake Bay supports the largest osprey population in the world, with an estimated 10,000 to 12,000 breeding pairs? These incredible "fish hawks" return to Maryland every spring after migrating thousands of miles from South America! Ospreys are expert fishermen, diving feet-first into the water to snatch their catch with powerful talons. Unlike other raptors, they have a reversible outer toe, which helps them grip slippery fish with ease. If you're near the Bay, keep an eye out for their distinctive nests—often perched on channel markers, telephone poles, or special nesting platforms! Have you spotted an osprey recently? Share your sightings in the comments! ⬇️ 📸 Photo credit: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service #OspreyWatch #ChesapeakeBay #WildlifeConservation #Birding (fb)
