MOMS Club
MOMS Club, an acronym for Moms Offering Moms Support, is a nonprofit organization providing support to stay-at-home mothers across the United States.
History
MOMS Club was founded in 1985 by Mary James, a stay-at-home mother from California, who was seeking to connect with other mothers in her area and provide playmates for her children. Recognizing the lack of existing daytime organizations for mothers and children, James established the first chapter. The success of this initial group led to the expansion of MOMS Club nationwide and internationally.
Activities
The activities of MOMS Club chapters vary but generally include monthly meetings, playgroups, mom's nights out, holiday parties, and community service projects. These events are designed to engage mothers and their children in meaningful activities while fostering a sense of community and support.
Structure
Each MOMS Club chapter operates as a nonprofit 501(C)(3) entity, registered under the group exemption of the International MOMS Club. Chapters are responsible for their own finances and activities, ensuring flexibility to meet the unique needs of their local members.
Inclusion and Impact
MOMS Club has been inclusive of mothers from diverse backgrounds, promoting diversity and support regardless of race, religion, sexuality, ethnicity, or economic status. This inclusive approach has contributed to its widespread presence, with chapters across the U.S. and globally.
Financial Assistance Programs
In addition to local chapter activities, MOMS Club operates the Mother-To-Mother Fund, which provides financial assistance to members facing unforeseen emergencies or natural disasters. This fund relies on donations from members and supporters to ensure assistance is available when needed.
