NEW YORK, NY: This is 8 year old Honey and she is currently living at Animal Haven shelter. As most of you know this is SSD's last year and, while I thought I was done posting adoptable senior dogs in, I cannot resist sharing just one more sweet soul with you. I met Honey only briefly while visiting the shelter but tugged on my heart. Honey was diagnosed with cancer and very much in need of a stress-free home right now. Sadly, adoptions in general are at an all time low and older gals with health issues, like Honey, have a very slim chance of being seen. Honey was originally rescued in 2017 from a homeless person who sought help. Honey was then adopted, but recently surrendered due to her health issues. Honey had a low grade mast cell tumor on her neck. The tumor was removed with good margins, but there is always a chance it will return and a potential adopter should be aware of that. We urge you to visit Honey, or any of the other senior dogs at Animal Haven. Or, if you live elsewhere please do check out the shelters in your area - they are all struggling. Your choice to adopt matters and the need for responsible adopters will always exist. To learn more about Honey, please email info@animalhaven.org with questions or to set up an appointment to meet her. Adoptions are by appointment only. Honey's adoption fee has been sponsored. Animal Haven is located at 200 Centre Street, New York, NY. (fb)

"Last July 2023 Buddy was diagnosed with lymphoma. We were given nine extra months with him. We lost him on April 15, 2024. We are very heartbroken and sad, so this is hard for me to give you his update but I’m going to try because Buddy would be very disappointed if I didn’t. His last nine months were amazing. He did everything on his bucket list and more! In August we took him on his last big road trip. Our goal was to go to the Rainbow Bridge with him in North Carolina. We also climbed Chimney Rock while there. He wanted to see the Atlantic Ocean on Hilton Head, SC and play in the sand. We watched the sunrise there too. Beautiful! We saw our moms in Florida. And then headed back to Omaha. I also did a weekend trip with him from our home in Omaha, NE to Winterset, Iowa to see the bridges of Madison County and we managed to find them all in one day. He had McDonald’s and pizza. His favorite dog store, Woof & Whiskers, made him his rainbow bridge cake to celebrate his four year adoptiversary which would have been on April 26 and his 11th birthday would’ve been June 6 of this year. We knew he was failing and wanted to make sure he got to celebrate both of those before he went over the rainbow bridge. His health regimen was prednisone. He had to be on a steroid to keep those lymph nodes from growing too large too fast but all the rest was research. We did mushrooms, turmeric, and such. We loved all his quirkiness habits from his first life and loved helping him through all of it to become the dog he longed to be and gave him four years of luxury and love and he in return gave it back times 10. Buddy was the best Buddy ever!! -Tracy" (fb)
