Success Story: Roscoe’s New Beginning. Meet Roscoe. For most of his life, Roscoe battled addiction and lived on the streets. Now in his mid-50s, he also carries the weight of a schizophrenia diagnosis, which made it nearly impossible for him to be accepted into any long-term recovery program. Despite repeated efforts to get clean, the cycle continued: Roscoe would enter detox when Medicaid would allow, only to be discharged and return to the streets—forced to relapse just to re-enter care. It was a heartbreaking and seemingly endless loop. Over the past nine months, our team walked closely with Roscoe—through detox stays, relapses, and raw, honest conversations where he vulnerably expressed his deep desire to change. He didn’t want to keep living this way. He wanted stability. He wanted freedom. But doors kept closing, and long-term solutions seemed out of reach. Then came a breakthrough. We received a call from Hope Center Recovery, who needed help securing a Greyhound ticket for one of their clients, Cody, heading to an out-of-state detox facility. We helped make that happen. And then came a thought: What if there was room for Roscoe too? We called Michael back and explained. Moved by compassion, Michael agreed to meet Roscoe in person. The very next day, a door opened. Roscoe left detox and walked into Hope House in Maiden, NC, where he will now spend an entire year in recovery—safe, supported, and surrounded by hope. But the miracle didn’t stop there. Just days after arriving, Roscoe called us on a Saturday with incredible news: “I got saved. I accepted Jesus. I’m delivered!” He described the moment as something real and powerful—like a weight lifted from his soul. The pain, the grief, the urge to use—it all left him in a way he could feel. This is more than a success story. It’s a testament to faith, perseverance, and the power of community. When Roscoe was deemed “too complex” or “too far gone,” grace made a way. Roscoe’s story reminds us that we are better together, and that no circumstance is beyond redemption.
