Grain de Sel Togo, Inc.

Grain de Sel Togo, Inc. is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the education of ambitious and talented but underprivileged students in public universities, primarily in Togo and other parts of Sub-Saharan Africa. The organization was founded on July 27, 2013, by Dr. Brad Hounkpati, a Togolese Fulbright Scholar, among others.

Purpose and Activities

Grain de Sel Togo's primary purpose is to provide scholarships and career development opportunities to deserving students. The organization works closely with the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Lomé, Togo, to facilitate these efforts. Additionally, it serves as a contact point for new Fulbright Grantees and other U.S. Department of State Exchange Program visitors from Togo and West Africa.

History and Inspirations

The establishment of Grain de Sel Togo was inspired by the esteemed Fulbright Program, which is one of the most prestigious international scholarship programs worldwide. The founders, who are Fulbright alumni themselves, sought to replicate the model of academic excellence and leadership development by supporting outstanding but financially challenged students in public universities.

Impact

As of January 2021, Grain de Sel Togo had awarded scholarships to 41 students in institutions located in Togo, France, Burkina Faso, Canada, and the United States. The organization also extends technical and academic support to African Fulbright scholars.
