KAPONO RED ROAD

KAPONO is a community-directed organization that welcomes community members from Kalapana to Kapoho to join together for the protection and enhancement of the health, heritage, and safety of our communities: our homes, our 'ohana, and our lifestyles. Community togetherness focused on: Safety and Wellness Connecting Community Preserving Nature and Culture Resources Quality of Life Improvements 1. Develop a Long Range Community Plan that gives us a voice in our future, education the community on how best to implement and working with county, state and federal representatives to assist in achieving the goals of the developed plan. 2. Research Historical Sites. Educate the public in both archeological and historical findings and Support Charitable Organizations in their efforts in Protecting these Historical Sites.3. Educate, through presentations, seminars and tours of Hawaiian historical sites within our community.4. Engage in scientific research into invasive plants and animals for the protection of the Pristine Coastal Environment and Landscape5. Sponsor The Red Road as a Scenic Byway, thereby potentially gaining access to federal/state/county funding and grants for improvements.6. Educate the community on how to address threats to property, such as criminal activities involving drugs, theft, vandalism, etc.7. Promote and educate Public Health & Safety concerns through support of the police department's need for better communications technology; improved fire station and paramedic access, and locally available emergency equipment such as a heart defibrillator and a helicopter-landing pad.8. Educate and support Beach Safety & Health issues such as emergency phone equipment, sanitation & public restrooms, safe access and security. Apply for Grants that provide funds to improve beaches through clean-up and safety through the funding of Life Guards and life saving equipment.9. Promote Road Safety & Improvements through community presentations with regard to signage, repair, and devising some alternate access route from the coastal areas to 130 in case of emergency resulting from tsunami, earthquake, hurricane or other disaster whether by nature or manmade , instead of just relying on Highway 137.10. Community based projects; fundraisers events to raise money for future community projects as deemed appropriate and voted on by the community to implement.
