THE LITTLE TRAVERSE HISTORICAL SOCIETY ENRICHES OUR COMMUNITY BY PRESERVING, SHOWCASING, AND SHARING THE HISTORY OF THE LITTLE TRAVERSE BAY AREA. THE LITTLE TRAVERSE HISTORICAL SOCIETY WILL BE CONSIDERED A CULTURAL CORNERSTONE OF THE COMMUNITY BY BECOMING A HIGHLY VALUED RESOURCE FOR INFORMATION AND EDUCATION ON THE HISTORY OF THE LITTLE TRAVERSE BAY AREA THOUGH EXPANDED PROGRAMMING, FACILITIES, AND ARCHIVES.
Little Traverse Historical Society
The Little Traverse Historical Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and showcasing the history of the Little Traverse Bay area in Michigan. Founded in 1905, it was formally incorporated as a non-profit in 1969 with a mission to enrich the community through historical preservation and education.
Mission and Vision
The society's mission is to preserve, showcase, and share the region's history, while its vision is to become a highly valued community resource for historical information and education through expanded programming, facilities, and archives.
History Museum
The society operates the Little Traverse History Museum, located in the restored Pere Marquette train depot on Petoskey's waterfront. The museum offers a variety of historical exhibits, including collections dedicated to Ernest Hemingway, who spent summers and the winter of 1919-1920 in Petoskey. The museum also features rare Odawa Indian artifacts and exhibits on regional history.
