Our mission is to help identified victims of human trafficking reintegrate into society by providing them with one or more of the following services, as needed to help them live independently in a safe environment:1. Emergency housing on a temporary basis2. Food and clothing3. Transportation4. Emergency medical or dental care if required5. Counseling services (including drug, psychological, or psychiatric counseling, as needed to help them reintegrate into society successfully (and to the extent funding becomes available))6. English as a second language classes if needed or interpretive services for those who do not speak English7. Help coordinating or navigating governmental systems to obtain any identification papers confiscated by a human trafficker or human smugglerWe believe many people working in the sex trade or in unpaid bondage for labor will be able to return to society and break away from their captors if they receive these types of assistance. No safety net currently exists for them. Services will be rendered depending on the needs of each victim and the funds available to assist them as a result of our fund-raising. We plan to work primarily in Texas, which is a crossroads of human trafficking across the U.S. Some victims are domestic U.S. citizens, including runaways and children sold for drugs or money. Others were stolen or lured away from foreign countries with the promise of a normal job, which never materialized. They may not speak the language, understand the laws, no where they are, or know how to get home again. Others have no home anywhere. We will work with a range of law enforcement and government agencies to establish that each person served is a victim of human trafficking. In addition, we will closely connect with agencies in an effort to obtain grant funds, with socially active donor corporations and philanthropists, and with the general public to raise funding needed to make a difference in this area. Other work will be done by using our volunteers to provide some services, such as English as a Second Language classes if needed, interpretive services, and transportation or food assistance. At this time, we can be effective only if we can raise substantial funds. Our fund-raising efforts have only just begun. Most of those involved in volunteering are retirees on fixed incomes, so we do have people to help, but we desperately need funding. Initially, we would like to use some of the funds to complete our start-up and set up operations. Specifically, we need funds for a Web site, Web hosting, and insurance to cover volunteers. No one in the organization receives payment for any work related the organization. All of our work is volunteer. Also, we have no offices or employees to pay for, so everything not required to operate will go directly to the service of human trafficking victims.
