We provide legal support to help journalists and media outlets worldwide to defend their rights. Media Defence provides legal support so that journalists, citizen journalists and media outlets world American Friends of MLDI supports free speech rights globally through its partner, Media Defence. Media Defence is the only organization to work solely on the legal defense of independent media and (citizen) journalists under threat around the world. It operates in three interconnected ways: 1. Administering an emergency defense program, funding and facilitating the legal defense of journalists and media outlets, connecting them to local lawyers and covering legal fees. 2. Strategic litigation that advances freedom of expression globally, changing the legal landscape for the media by reducing the routes through which journalism is silenced. 3. Building capacity through grants to partner organizations delivering in-country support and through litigation surgeries for lawyers.
